Template: Analysis for Student Skills Requirements
From 1 July 2025, RTOs will be required to demonstrate that "VET students are advised, prior to enrolment, about the suitability of the training product for them, taking into account the student’s skills and competencies" (Outcome Standard 2.2)
This means RTOs must take into account the requirements of the training product, understand the skills and competencies required to successfully undertake that product, and advise students about the requirement prior to enrolment.
While units of competency will have their inherent requirements, what extra skills must a student have because of the way the RTO is delivering the product?
Here's where RTOs must be thorough in identifying and detailing ALL of the language, literacy, numeracy, digital and employability skills a student will need to be successful in their studies.
This tool provides you with a comprehensive framework to unpack and identify the skills requirements for the training product according to the way the RTO delivers/assesses it.
You get:
- A information sheet explaining how to use the tool
- An editable spreadsheet framework with two template options
- An editable macro-enabled spreadsheet
- A copy of the DigComp 2.2 framework (the framework recognised by the Australian Government for digital skills and training activities)
- And for those comfortable with the use of generative AI, a guide which gives a prompt for getting generative AI models to assist in the process
The spreadsheet templates allow you to break down the required skills in an assessment task, determine the appropriate ACSF / DigComp levels and document the overall competencies needed to successfully complete the tasks.
The GenAI prompt will help you identify requirements, develop skills overview statements, and finally develop screening test question banks that are tailored to the specific identified requirements.
Ensure you read the Licence Agreement triggered upon purchase of any Training Tools product.
