The Revised Standards for RTOs will shift to become 'Outcome Standards'

Revised Standards for RTOs

The incoming revised Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) will trigger a change from the current, prescriptive Standards, to a model whereby the RTO must operate under outcomes-focused assurance.

The Outcome Standards have been written to describe and set out key elements of quality training and assessment.

They provide a statement of the required output of the RTO's activities (the standard of outcomes expected) and a number of points (as performance indicators) that the RTO is expected to do to help demonstrate how they've achieved each outcome. Being able to demonstrate how they've met these outcomes is required in order to maintain RTO registration.

This means each RTO will be responsible for:

  • Determining how they meet the Standards

  • Demonstrating their compliance with each Standard

  • Ensuring they understand and comply with all applicable legislative requirements

The way each RTO meets the revised Standards will be different - because each RTO's context for operations is different.
